The FIM has announced a major change to rider safety regulations, with airbag systems set to become mandatory in Women’s Motocross World Championship from 2028.
From 2027, the use of a functional airbag system will be highly recommended, before becoming compulsory from 2028.
The airbag must either be FIM Homologated (FRHPab-01) or declared compliant with FIM Category 3 (Motocross).
The system must be correctly worn and operational throughout all on-track activities. The FIM Technical Director will have the final decision regarding rider equipment.
The new regulation will give riders and teams one full season to prepare before the requirement becomes mandatory in 2028.
