Kiara Fontanesi continues to strengthen her position at the top of the Italian Women’s Motocross Championship standings. The reigning champion delivered another perfect weekend in Gioiella, winning both motos and extending her advantage in the championship.
Racing for GasGas and Fiamme Oro, Fontanesi once again proved to be the rider to beat, taking two victories ahead of Nellie Fransson and Giorgia Montini. The Swedish finished second overall, while Montini matched her on points but had to settle for third on the overall classification.
Fontanesi remains unbeaten
Fontanesi controlled both races in Gioiella to secure another overall victory and further consolidate her championship lead. Behind her, Fransson enjoyed a strong weekend with a second-place finish, while Montini completed the overall podium after a consistent 2-3 scorecard.
The Swedish rider also took victory in the Under-19 category, finishing ahead of Emanuela Talucci and Cecilia Polato. In the AMA Over-19 class, Martina Cera took the win ahead of Asia Macini and Lora Tamas.
Kolnookov shines in the 125cc class
The 125cc category produced one of the most impressive performances of the weekend, with Ana Kolnookov taking both race victories.
The KTM rider’s second moto was particularly remarkable. After crashing at the start and finding herself at the back of the field, the Serbian fought her way through the pack to recover the lead and complete an outstanding comeback.
Alessia Di Luccia finished second overall and, despite missing out on the victory, regained the championship lead. Sofia Chermaz completed the overall podium after a consistent weekend.
In the Over-17 category, Deborah Aquilini took the victory after finishing level on points with Federica Piantamori. Championship leader Letizia Marconi completed the podium.
The championship battles continue
With Fontanesi continuing to collect maximum points in the main category and Di Luccia reclaiming the advantage in the 125cc championship, both title fights remain firmly in focus as the Italian season progresses.
Fontanesi’s latest double victory once again underlines her status as the rider to beat, but the battles behind her continue to provide plenty of intrigue, with Montini and Fransson fighting for the podium positions and the 125cc championship remaining particularly close.
