This weekend sees the fifth and penultimate round of the WMX Championship in the United States at Budds Creek. Lachlan Turner holds a 20-point lead over Charli Cannon in the title race. For the Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha rider and two-time defending champion, the goal will be to arrive at the final with a significant advantage and avoid any problems. For Australian rider Charli Cannon of the Quad Lock Honda team, a win is essential if she is to secure her first US title. This weekend could provide an important answer.
The battle for third place involves three riders. Jordan Jarvis (Dusty Rocks Yamaha) reclaimed third last week. The most decorated rider on the grid would love to return to the podium this weekend after the disappointment of missing out on the title in Canada. She will have to contend with Taylah McCutcheon. The Australian rider from the Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX Kawasaki team is carrying an injury but remains determined to achieve the best possible result. Fifth in the standings is Mikayla Nielsen. The SLR Honda rider will be looking for redemption after last week’s performance. Trailing Jarvis by 17 points, she needs a strong weekend to remain in contention for third place.
Her teammate, Mayla Herrick, has been shining since joining the championship. She will be looking to secure her first overall victory and could play a role in the battle between Turner and Cannon for the title.
We’ll also be keeping an eye on Piper Bell and Lilly-Ann Pettus, who sit comfortably in sixth and seventh respectively in the championship standings. Nanami Honda, Brandy Richards, Isla Phillips and Hannah Hodges are all riding a two-race winning streak and will be looking to challenge for a top-ten finish — or even better.
