Third overall at the GP of Australia, Lotte van Drunen clinched her second WMX World Championship title at just 18 years old, further cementing her place in the history books of the sport.
Despite holding a 16-point lead, the De Baets MXGP Team rider came under heavy pressure in the final round. Third in Saturday’s moto, she knew that a top-six finish on Sunday would be enough to secure the crown. After a strong start that saw her briefly leading, the closing laps felt like an eternity — the relief was clear as she crossed the line and sealed the championship.
Van Drunen opened the season with victory at the GP of Sardegna and went on to stand on the podium at every other round, proving her consistency across all types of terrain. Following a serious injury last winter, the Dutch rider has delivered a remarkable campaign at the very highest level.
Congratulations, Lotte!
