Charli Cannon claims High Point overall victory

The second WMX moto took place on Saturday at High Point and delivered plenty of drama from start to finish. The race was initially red-flagged following a heavy crash involving Mayla Herrick shortly after the first gate drop.

When racing resumed, Lachlan Turner grabbed the holeshot and quickly established herself at the front of the field. The Altus Blu Cru Yamaha rider looked set to secure another moto win, building a lead of around nine seconds over Charli Cannon.

However, with only a few laps remaining, Turner made a costly mistake and went down, allowing Cannon to move into the lead. The Quad Lock Honda rider capitalized on the opportunity and rode to victory in the second moto, securing the overall win for the weekend.

Turner crossed the line in second place and finished second overall, tied on points with Cannon. Despite missing out on the overall victory, she remains the WMX championship leader as the series reaches its halfway point.

Mikayla Nielsen completed the moto podium in third, while Lotte van Drunen delivered another impressive charge through the field to finish fourth. The Dutch rider’s consistency earned her a first-career WMX overall podium, finishing ahead of Nielsen in the combined standings.

Jordan Jarvis secured fifth place after battling throughout the race with the riders ahead of her. Taylah McCutcheon ended a challenging weekend in sixth position for the Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX team.

Jamie Astudillo finished seventh, followed by Emma Milesevic and Taylor Herald, who impressed with a strong ride. Piper Bell rounded out the top ten once again.

The WMX Championship now heads into its summer break, with round four scheduled to take place in mid-August.
