A perfect debut for Mayla Herrick

Mayla Herrick could hardly have asked for a better birthday present. Eligible to compete in her first WMX US Championship race, the Honda rider made an immediate impact by taking the holeshot and leading every lap of the opening moto at High Point.

Herrick quickly built a comfortable gap in the early stages of the race and maintained control throughout. Despite pressure from behind, she crossed the finish line with nearly a two-second advantage to secure a memorable victory on her debut.

Lotte van Drunen finished second. The two-time WMX World Champion got off to a strong start and spent the race chasing down Herrick, but the Dutch rider ran out of time to challenge for the win.

Lachlan Turner completed the podium in third. The Altus Motorsports BLU CRU Yamaha rider did not get the start she was hoping for, but fought her way through the field with several impressive passes to secure a podium finish.

Mikayla Nielsen came home fourth after a solid start. The SLR Honda rider remained in contention throughout the moto but was unable to match the pace of the top three. Behind her, Charli Cannon rounded out the top five. The Quad Lock Honda rider found herself buried in the pack early on and struggled to make significant progress despite a late push.

Jordan Jarvis enjoyed her strong rides. Running near the front from the opening laps, the Yamaha rider eventually secured sixth place ahead of Taylah McCutcheon. The Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX rider got off to a good start but was unable to maintain the pace of the riders ahead and settled for seventh.

Lilly-Ann Pettus claimed eighth place after another consistent performance. The American rider successfully held off a late charge from Jamie Astudillo, who was making her first appearance of the championship after focusing on the Canadian series earlier this season.
Rounding out the top ten was Piper Bell. After a difficult start left her outside the leading group, Bell produced a strong comeback ride to secure valuable championship points.
The second moto is scheduled for tomorrow.
