Lea Chaput demonstrated extraordinary courage and determination during this year’s edition of Le Touquet. After an average start, the young French rider quickly found her rhythm and surged into the lead. Competing in the Junior Women’s category, she steadily pulled away from her rivals, building an impressive advantage of up to one minute and thirty seconds.
With just ten minutes remaining, however, disaster struck. Another competitor collided with the Kawasaki rider, resulting in a heavy crash. Despite the medical team’s intervention and their advice to stop, Lea made the brave decision to remount. Moments after restarting, she crashed again. Undeterred, she lifted her bike once more and pushed on, ultimately crossing the finish line in third place.
Shortly after the race, Lea collapsed and lost consciousness. Initial medical examinations revealed a fractured talus along with suspected ligament damage to her ankle. Further tests will be required to assess the full extent of her injuries. Suffering from a head trauma, she has no memory of the events following her crash.
Beyond missing out on a likely victory, Lea now faces a lengthy recovery period before she can return to racing.
Videos of the incident are currently circulating on social media, highlighting the intensity of the moment. Lea’s resilience and fighting spirit left a lasting impression on everyone watching.
Get well soon, Lea !
