Danish motocross star Sara Andersen has officially announced the end of her professional racing career. After hinting at retirement at the end of 2024, she managed to make the 2025 season but the talented rider has now confirmed her decision to step away from elite competition in women’s motocross.
Supported by Yamaha Scandinavia and the Wozniak MX Yamaha Racing Team, Sara was able to compete during the 2025 season. Unfortunately, a collarbone injury suffered in Spain forced her to make difficult choices. To limit financial costs, she decided not to travel to rounds in Turkey and Australia.
Despite racing while injured, Sara once again demonstrated her determination and resilience. She finished third in the Swedish Motocross Championship, riding through pain and adversity. In the WMX World Championship, she opened the season with an impressive fourth place in Sardinia, followed by a strong performance in Spain before being taken out in a crash caused by another rider.
Although her results remained highly competitive, Sara Andersen was unable to secure sufficient sponsorship to contest a full WMX World Championship season. After several demanding seasons under these conditions, she made the difficult decision to end her professional motocross career and focus on new opportunities beyond racing.
At just 24 years old, Sara Andersen leaves behind one of the most impressive summaries in women’s motocross:
– Three-time EMX Women’s European Champion
– 11 National Championship titles in Sweden and Denmark
– Podium finisher with Denmark at the Women’s Motocross of European Nations
– Multiple race victories and Top 5 finishes in the WMX World Championship
Although she is retiring from full-time competition, Sara will still enjoy riding and competing alongside her teammates at select events.
It is a sad moment for women’s motocross to see one of the world’s top riders forced to retire so young due to financial limitations rather than lack of talent or motivation.
Sara Andersen, thank you for everything you have contributed to the sport. Congratulations on an outstanding career, and we wish you every success in the next chapter of your life.
