Kiara Fontanesi continues her momentum

The first race of the weekend took place in Teutschenthal, Germany, in the heat and on a well-prepared course with some nice ruts.

Kiara Fontanesi took the holeshot ahead of Daniela Guillen, who was well positioned on the inside. Several riders, including Virginie Germond, crashed on the first straight. On the first lap, the six-time WMX world champion managed to open up a small gap on a group of three composed of Lotte van Drunen, Lynn Valk, and Daniela Guillen. Behind, Malou Jakobsen led a chasing group with Larissa Papenmeier, Amandine Verstappen, Shana van der Vlist, April Franzoni, and Danée Gelissen in her rear wheel. The battle raged on all levels, even though Fontanesi seemed poised for victory. Lynn Valk gradually lost contact with the leading trio. On the eighth lap, Daniela Guillen managed to overtake Lotte van Drunen to move into second place. The Spaniard took advantage of the situation to increase the pace and closed in on the race leader. The 2024 WMX World Champion tried to regain her position without success. Behind, Amandine Verstappen and then Larissa Papenmeier managed to overtake Malou Jakobsen.

Kiara Fontanesi (MX Fonta Racing) managed to win with a very good pace at the end of the race and is now close behind Lotte van Drunen in the standings. Daniela Guillen (Mequitec Racing) held on to second place. Lotte van Drunen (De Baets MX Team) made a late push but had to settle for third. Lynn Valk (Van Venrooy KTM Racing) finished fourth despite a good pace early in the race. Larissa Papenmeier (SYE Racing Team 423) took fifth place at the end of the race by overtaking Amandine Verstappen (Team Newbike Yamaha). Malou Jakobsen (Team KL Racing) held on well at the end of the race for seventh place. Shana van der Vlist (Yamaha) didn’t find the right rhythm and had to settle for eighth place. April Franzoni (Honda SR) was ninth. The Frenchwoman was on the pace of the group for the Top 5. Danee Gelissen (De Baets MX Team) completed the Top 10 on the final lap.

Martine Hughes (Kawasaki Sverige) had a difficult first lap. The Norwegian made a strong comeback to finish just outside the Top 10. Tyra Bäckström (GasGas) was in the top 10 at the start of the final lap but lost two positions. Consistent as ever, Mathea Selebø (Fantic) finished thirteenth ahead of German champion Alexandra Massury (KTM), who is getting a special livery this weekend. The German rider had a very good race. Tanja Schlosser (Triumph) scored her first points in the WMX World Championship and proved she deserved her place with a strong late-race pace. Jana Sanchez (Mequitec Racing) battled for points throughout the race in sixteenth place. She finished ahead of Elena Kapsamer (GasGas), who had a poor start. The Austrian had the pace to do better. Nellie Fransson (JK Racing Yamaha) had a very good start. Not yet at 100%, the Swede slowed down as the laps progressed and lost positions, but scored points. Laura Raunkjaer (SYE Racing Team 423) scored two points with a strong race. Mara Benecke (KTM) completed the top 20 and scored one point.

Race two tomorrow morning.
