Mikayla Nielsen : « The plan right now is to focus on my off road championship »

Mikayla Nielsen is one of the best motocross and offroad riders on the planet. Winner of Loretta Lynns in 2019, she has dominated the NGPC championship for two seasons. On the podium at both rounds of the WMX championship that she has contested, KayKay took some time to answer our questions.

Mikayla you are leading the NGPC Series championship with many points ahead, will you participate in the WMX remaining races?

Sadly I will not be able to attend the last races due to my NGPC Series Championship. With focusing on training for that championship plus traveling it’s a lot to juggle both.

You finished third at Loretta Lynns, can you tell us about your weekend?

My weekend at Loretta Lynn’s was up and down. It was a big achievement to qualify for Collegeboy and WMX and also come back to the ranch after only going once. First moto of WMX, I came through the pack the whole time and didn’t put myself in the best position. The other 2 motos I was in second and did put myself up there but I didn’t ride like how I know I can.

You participated in two rounds of the WMX United States Championship, do you have other rounds planned at the end of the season? What is your analysis of this first season?

The plan right now is to focus on my off road championship. I’m so glad the WMX Championship is back. This is what us women needed. Most of us were at a point where we were at the end of the road because there wasn’t much more we could do. I hope it continues to grow and we can race on Fridays before Pro Motocross because racing at Ironman was definitely one to remember.

How do you analyze your season so far?

My season so far has been going well. It’s been more of a building year with my new team as well as my training and fitness. Just trying to learn on and off the bike to better my self.

.

Do you plan to do the full championship in 2025? What are your plans?

As of right now, I do not know what my plans are for races in 2025.

Can you tell us about your typical day as a professional rider?

My typical day would be ride, cycle/gym, college, repeat. I will usually be at the track from 9-1 where my trainer Tom Danielson will write me a schedule. I get home and unload, wash, and eat food before I go cycle or gym. After training, I usually have college assignments due so I spend a couple hours on that then getting everything ready to go do it again the next day.

Is the WMX World Championship a goal for you?

Absolutely the WMXGP is a bucket list for me. I would love to get the opportunity to go over and race the top females.
