Lucy Barker has just won her third European Championship title (1xEMX Women125 & 2xEMX Women) by missing a round. With three European titles, the British athlete joins Sara Andersen (3xEMX Women) at the top of the list. We had the chance to ask her a few questions ahead of the second half of the season.
Second consecutive EMX Women’s European Championship title! How do you feel after this new victory in Slovakia?
I feel great, it’s always nice to win so yes I’m super happy and motivated to show what I can do at WMX.
With three titles, you are the most decorated rider at the European level, along with Sara Andersen. Do you want to continue in the European Championship in 2026 to try to win another title?
The plan wasn’t even to do the Europeans this year (we didn’t go to Poland) however we decided racing is good and we have a big gap also Estonia and Slovakia are beautiful places and nice tracks.
How was this season different from the last? Did you feel more pressure as the defending champion?
I would say this season was more pressure as the points was close form missing a round whereas last year I won a round early.
What do you think were the keys to your consistency throughout the championship, knowing that you missed a round?
Just training hard feeling confident and enjoying the European races, a happy rider is a fast rider.
Is there a particular round or highlight of the season that stands out?
I would say obviously the last round in Slovakia is amazing due to the fabulous track and atmosphere but also the round in The Netherlands after such a terrible time in Sardinia it was good to show my speed and what I can really do.
What are your goals for the rest of the season? Will we see you at the last three rounds of the WMX World Championship?
My goals are to just ride like I can at the WMX I am yet to show my true potential and my speed at the world championship which is something we are working on. Obviously Australia is difficult so that is still undecided …. Especially as I’m not in a great spot in the championship it seems a lot to go and do, it’s very costly.
Do you have any special thanks?
I would like to thank my family for the sacrifices they make without them none of this would be possible and also a big thanks to my coach, Kenny and finally of course all my amazing sponsors.
