The second WMX race at Budds Creek unfolded in completely different conditions after heavy rain hit the track, making for a much more challenging race.
Mikayla Nielsen grabbed the holeshot, with Lachlan Turner quickly moving past Charli Cannon before setting her sights on the race leader. Behind them, Taylah McCutcheon went down in the first corner and collected Brandy Richards. The Australian rider was left with nowhere to go.
Turner wasted little time taking control of the race and quickly opened a gap at the front. Cannon then moved past Nielsen to take over second position.
Mayla Herrick made an excellent start and ran fourth early on, but a crash dropped her back. Jordan Jarvis and Hannah Hodges had been battling from the opening laps, and Herrick was able to move past them, setting up a three-way fight for fourth.
Further back, Richards and McCutcheon continued their impressive recoveries after their first-corner incident.
Out front, Turner was in complete control and cruised to victory in the second moto. Cannon once again finished second, while Nielsen completed the podium in third.
Jarvis secured fourth after a hard-fought battle with Herrick. Hodges faded slightly towards the end but held on to sixth.
Kaylie Kayer also enjoyed an excellent race, spending much of the moto in seventh ahead of Lilly-Ann Pettus. Richards fought her way back to ninth, just ahead of McCutcheon.
Turner perfect in Budds Creek
Lachlan Turner enjoyed a perfect weekend at Budds Creek, going 1-1 to take the overall victory.
Cannon gave everything she had but had to settle for second overall. The two-time defending champion now heads into the final round with a 21-point lead over Turner in the championship standings.
Nielsen completed the overall podium in third, putting herself back into contention for the final championship podium with one round remaining.
Despite racing through injury, McCutcheon finished fourth overall, ahead of Richards, who secured her first WMX overall Top 5.
Kayer enjoyed a strong sixth-place overall finish, ahead of Pettus and Piper Bell. The two riders remain locked in a battle for sixth place in the championship standings.
Jamie Astudillo finished ninth overall after a more difficult second moto, while Tayla Jones rounded out the overall Top 10.
