This weekend sees the fourth round of the WMX World Championship in Arnhem, Netherlands. It’s the penultimate round of the 2026 season, and for many riders, it will be their last. The trip to Australia is very expensive for riders who have nothing left to compete for.
Kiara Fontanesi leads the championship by two points over Daniela Guillen. But the sand in Arnhem could be decisive with one round remaining in Australia. The championship is so close that the slightest mistake could be crucial. Who will gain an advantage this weekend in the fight for the title?
Courtney Duncan is gaining momentum, and even though sand isn’t her favorite surface, she has consistently performed well in Arnhem. Another podium finish would give her a real confidence boost before the Australian Grand Prix.
Shana van der Vlist is having a great season. Competing on her home sand track, she will be one of the contenders for the podium and could well challenge the title contenders.
Lotte van Drunen hasn’t reached the podium since the start of the season. Beaten last year in Arnhem, the two-time WMX world champion is determined to reclaim the top step of the podium this weekend in front of her home crowd.
Behind her, we’ll witness a fierce battle among the top 10 riders: Malou Jakobsen, Lucy Barker, Amandine Verstappen, and April Franzoni. They’re all eager to perform.
Danée Gelissen, the EMX Women’s European champion, has had some bad luck since the beginning of the season. Competing on home soil, she’s keen to perform and leave with a strong result.
For many riders, this will be the final GP of the season, and they’ll all be eager to shine and finish the championship as high as possible.
