The fourth round of the EMX Women’s European Championship took place this weekend in Romania, with only seven riders making the long journey to the Eastern European venue.
Championship leader Danée Gelissen dominated the weekend by winning both races. The Dutch rider’s perfect score allowed her to extend her advantage in the standings and move one step closer to the European title. Laura Raunkjaer (3-2) secured second overall. The Meuwissen Motorsports rider remains second in the championship and continues to be Gelissen’s closest challenger in the title race.
Racing on home soil, Theodora Gumeniuc (2-3) once again impressed. Battling with Raunkjaer throughout the weekend, the Romanian demonstrated remarkable speed aboard her 125cc machine. In addition to finishing third overall, she claimed victory in the 125cc class and further extended her lead in the category standings as she pursues her first European crown.
Patricija Berzina (4-4) finished fourth overall. The Latvian showed strong pace but was unable to maintain it consistently throughout the races. Runner-up in the 125cc class, she remains Gumeniuc’s main rival in the championship battle. Melissa Mäntylä (6-5) took fifth overall, while Toke Tops (5-6) finished sixth on equal points with the Finn. The young Belgian also completed the 125cc podium in Romania. Nya Getova (7-7) rounded out the field in seventh place.
There is little time to recover for the riders, who now head to Finland for the fifth and penultimate round of the EMX Women’s European Championship. Another long journey awaits as the battle for both titles enters its decisive stage.
