Mini O’s Motocross: van Drunen and Herrick won their respective heats

After the supercross, it was time for motocross in Florida at Mini O’s. The 68 riders were divided into two groups.

Heat 1: Lotte van Drunen on track for a fourth title

In the first group, Lotte van Drunen got the holeshot ahead of Mila Baltyk and Danielle McDonald. The Australian quickly overtook Baltyk and tried to catch the six-time WMX world champion. Behind them, Elena Kapsamer got off to a great start in fourth position ahead of Lucy Barker, who got boxed in a bit in the opening seconds of the race.

Lotte van Drunen cruised to victory and put herself in a strong position to clinch another title. Danielle McDonald showed great form after a full GNCC season. The Yamaha rider held off Barker’s late charge to secure second place. Elena Kapsamer finished fourth. The Austrian found herself alone after being overtaken by the Briton.

Tinley McCoy continued her strong week. Poorly positioned on the first lap, the KTM rider made a great comeback with a very impressive pace, finishing right behind Kapsamer. Mila Baltyk dropped down the order. After losing third place to Barker, the Honda rider made a mistake and lost several positions, finishing sixth in this first race. Jacqueline Ross got off to a good start and had an excellent race. She was followed by Zoe Moore, who finished eighth after a close battle with Shelby Rolen. Brinsley Dyess completed the top 10.

Mayla Herrick in the running for the podium

The second race featured many young American riders. Mayla Herrick grabbed the holeshot and immediately built a significant lead to take the win easily. Behind her, Kelsey Harris finished second, battling with Piper Bell and Callie Sutton from the start. Bell managed to find an opening on the second lap to finish second. Harris held off Sutton’s attacks to maintain third position.

Quinn Sonnen overtook Kyleigh Hayes for fifth position on the second lap. Kiana Kurtz made a strong comeback to finish seventh with a very impressive final lap. Tayteum Aschan took eighth place ahead of Piper Carver-Coons and Kenzie Watteyne.
